Full Details for 3 Bedroom Detached for sale in Dover, CT15 :
This property is a charming country cottage that was originally a square oast and built in the early 1800s. It is tucked away among the rolling hills of the North Downs, just off the delightful Alkham Valley Road. Approached via a private lane, this charming country home nestles in 3.211 acres acres of gardens and paddocks. It is ideal for equestrian enthusiasts as there is an excellent stable block including two stables, a double foaling box, a tack room and a storage barn as well as a 40ft. By 20ft. Floodlit all-weather rubber-based manege and surrounded by paddocks. You will also find bridle paths and off-road hacking as well as plenty of countryside where you can take the dogs for bracing walks. There is a separate self-contained annex that includes a living room, kitchen, bathroom and bedroom. So if you have elderly relatives, adult children looking for independent accommodation or perhaps you want to generate extra income with a country holiday let, this property provides everything you need. The main house is full of character features but has also been updated to reflect the needs of modern living, including a magnificent new kitchen with a range cooker, American fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. It is adjacent to the lovely book-lined dining room/ library that is ideal for entertaining friends and family while the beamed sitting room is a really cosy spot to curl up in front of the wood-burning stove. It leads to the sun room with double doors to the garden and patio area and wonderful views across the Alkham Valley countryside. Upstairs, there are two very large double bedrooms and a fabulous modern bathroom.
“We moved here 14 years ago and have thoroughly enjoyed everything about our home, but family commitments mean we have to make a move. During the time we have been here we have been delighted to install a new kitchen and bathroom as well as the stable block and manege. However, if you are not into horses, it would always be possible to rent out the equestrian facility as it is a little way from the house. We also created the annex where my father has lived happily for many years. We had planned to extend the cottage and there is lapsed planning permission available for an additional two bedrooms, another bathroom and two rooms on the ground floor. It would probably be quite easy to arrange for the permissions to be reinstated if you are looking for more accommodation. It is a wonderfully peaceful and tranquil place to bring up a family. We love sitting out on the terrace in the garden during the spring and summer just admiring the view and listening to the birds or inviting friends round for a barbecue. At the same time, although we are out in the country, we are very central for Folkestone, Dover and Canterbury and there is a bus stop nearby. Alkham is a friendly village and includes the well-known Marquis restaurant, a cricket club and a hall offering a variety of activities while Hawkinge is not far away with its eateries and local shops.”
