Location
Shere is one of Surrey's most historic and picturesque villages, with the River Tillingbourne at its heart. There are a wealth of period buildings, and the village is set within the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The village offers an extensive range of amenities including a doctors' surgery, convenience store and post office, bakery, greengrocer, coffee shops, two pubs, a fine dining restaurant, gift shop and a trekking shop. The A25 provides for easy access to Dorking and Guildford, where main line stations offer good services to London, with journey times into Waterloo from about 35 minutes, whilst the A3, accessible at Ripley, connects with the M25 for the airports and the national motorway network.

In addition to nursery and primary schools in the village, other schools in the area include Duke of Kent, Hurtwood House, Glenesk, St Teresa's, Cranmore, Cranleigh, Longacre, St Catherine's, Lanesborough, Royal Grammar, Guildford High and Tormead.

Recreational facilities include an outdoor swimming pool, tennis club, lawn bowls club, a community cinema in the village hall where also many small antique fayres take place. There are sport and leisure centres at Guildford, Dorking and Cranleigh. Golf is available at a number of local clubs, polo at Ewhurst, racing at Epsom and Sandown Park and fishing at Weston and Willinghurst fisheries. In addition, the immediate surrounding countryside offers excellent riding, cycling and walking opportunities.
Directions
From Guildford town centre, follow the A246, Epsom Road, for 2.9 miles through Merrow to the traffic signals at the Clandon crossroads and, here, turn right onto the A25, towards Dorking. After 2.8 miles, turn right onto Upper Street towards Shere and then, after 0.4 miles, turn right onto Middle Street. Proceed ahead through the village and, just after the little bridge, turn right and then left into Orchard Road
