Full Details for Commercial Property for sale in Looe, PL13 :

Pengelly’s was established on East Looe Quay by J. F. Moore whose granddaughters have been involved in the business since the 1980’s and now run the company. The Pengelly family has descended from a long line of fishermen and boat owners and their tradition has carried on up to the present day.

The port of Looe is the second biggest port in Cornwall with a harbour that dries out at low tide, consequently no beam trawlers or large boats can use the port. The small local fleet must be in and out as quick as the tide allows and the fish is therefore exceptionally fresh and is often referred to as ‘day caught fish’, which fetches premium prices.

The two sisters who run the business have a licence to purchase fish which is included in the sale and attend the early morning auctions on the harbour at the fish market to ensure they have the premium product that they are well known for. They then process and sell the fish through two outlets, one being on the East Looe Quay and the other in the market town of Liskeard.

THE BUSINESS
The business has appeared on numerous television and newspaper articles and is well known within the trade nationally and all of their wet fish is bought in Looe along with crab and lobster. This includes tagged fish for sustainable fishing.

The proprietors are willing to assist in the transition of the business for a period and the existing partners are willing to continue in the business if required. For the sale fixtures and fittings are included. Stock is to be taken at valuation including shell fish, labelling, crab buckets, nets, cooking condiments, all freezers, displays, vacuum packed machines, mackerel ticket, parking on both Quays, the fish buyers Licence and the advertising boards.

Current sales are both to the public, restaurants and mail order next day delivery and they are active participants in the Looe FoodFestival.

The business has excellent potential for expansion as the old delicatessen shop is currently only used for storage and could be re-opened. The Liskeard outlet is only open currently for two days a week giving further potential and the mail order next day delivery service is also showing strong signs of growth. All three outlets are leased with the main fishmongers and delicatessen shop on the Quay at East Looe from Looe Harbour Commissioners and the Liskeard outlet from Liskeard Town Council.

This is a rare opportunity to purchase an iconic premium Cornish family business which is well known nationally with excellent opportunities to expand into the premium food retail markets.

AGENTS NOTE
The Leases for the three outlets can be inspected at our Liskeard office along with the accounts for the last two years.
