Description | The house was constructed around 1780 and is a Grade II Listed building. Built in stone with beautiful Georgian sash windows under a slate roof and this has recently undergone a significant amount of work. The house gives a feeling of elegance with high ceilings, large reception rooms and a grand staircase with a half level landing. Downstairs there is a spacious drawing room with an ornate fireplace and surround, oak panelling and a triple aspect. The music room, off the drawing room has a dual aspect with large sash windows, shutters and a marble fireplace. The kitchen incorporates original tiled floors, marble work surfaces, a Belling Country Range with an eight ring gas hob and electric oven plus a separate electric oven. The windows overlook the rear courtyard. Upstairs there are five double bedrooms (three en-suite) and the bathrooms have been recently refurbished to a high standard. The downstairs Bedroom 6 now has an en-suite. |
. | The detached Coach House to the rear of the main house was also built in the Georgian era and has been totally refurbished over the past three years to provide 5* rated holiday accommodation. As arranged the Coach House currently sleeps up to 10 people. The main reception room has a full height vaulted ceiling and is certainly large enough for both sitting and dining areas. The kitchen/breakfast room has been refurbished recently with a light coloured tiled floor and built in appliances. In total the Coach House provides four bedrooms/four bathrooms and has proved popular with holiday makers. |
Location | During the eighteenth and nineteenth century, the area around St Day, United Downs and Gwennap was one of the richest areas for mining in the world. Fortunes were made, large properties built and the area thrived until surface mining abroad finished Cornish deep mining as extraction became too expensive. The Copperhouse which was believed to have been built circa 1780 was the administrative centre for the collective copper mines at Gwennap. It has a large iron clad strongroom, probably for the payroll. Steeped in local history, it is a very fine example of prosperity during the mining era. |
. | This elegant and historically very important house is set in a rural position yet gives easy access to both the north and south Cornwall coasts. The coastal town of Falmouth is about five miles away. The city of Truro is six miles distant. From the east there are excellent road networks, the A30 takes you in and out of Cornwall and is only about four miles from the house. From the house the whole of Cornwall is within an easy driving distance which makes the Coach House a popular choice for holiday makers. Redruth has a mainline rail facility (three miles). |
Services | The following services are available: mains electricity, mains water, mains drainage. Telephone line and broadband connected however we have not verified this. |
Directions | From the east take the A30 west until you reach the Chiverton roundabout, continue straight on taking the dual carriageway/ Camborne-Redruth bypass. Leave at the first exit signposted Scorrier-Falmouth and at the bottom of the slip road turn left by the Crossroads Hotel. Continue to the next crossroads and go straight across following the road to Falmouth. In about three miles you drive through Carharrack. You come to a junction with the Fox & Founds on the right. Turn left and the house is about half a mile on the right hand side. |
