Roseneath is an extremely elegant home that occupies a truly outstanding, semi-rural location almost equidistant between the beautiful cities of Bath and Bristol. The house was built in the late 1850s and sympathetically extended in the 1870s, and over the last ten years it has been beautifully renovated by the current owners Malachy and Jenny, to create a wonderfully comfortable and exceptionally stylish family home.I have worked in the Bristol area over the last twenty years, says Malachy, and ten years ago we decided to look for a property that would enable me to reduce my daily commute; thats when we happened upon Roseneath. Its a beautiful home and in terms of location it couldnt be more ideal. The house was definitely a project for us, continues Malachy, and so weve completely renovated it throughout, but in a way sympathetic to its Victorian values. Weve retained all of the lovely original features, so its hugely characterful, but weve also included some more modern touches. One of the most significant changes was to the kitchen, which Jenny designed. Its very contemporary, but it fits beautifully with the style of the house, and it has become the real hub of our home. The garden is lovely, says Malachy, and, although a large space, its mainly laid to lawn, so its surprisingly manageable. Were completely enveloped by farmland, and we have mature trees bordering the property to the north and east, which give a really nice feeling of seclusion. We have left the southern edge of the property completely open to the views of the glorious landscape beyond, and down to the Avon.More often than not, my wife and I tend to find ourselves in the main living room, says Malachy. Its a wonderfully spacious room, at one end of which is a dining table where we can seat up to fourteen people, and at the other end comfortable sofas arranged around the open fireplace. Its where we love to sit and relax at the end of the day, and, of course, its also ideal for entertaining. Our immediate surroundings are very beautiful, says Malachy, but the location is also extremely convenient. We tend to gravitate to Bath during our free time, and its shopping and the Theatre Royal there have been a big feature of our lives during our time here. However its just as easy to get into Bristol, so its ideal for commuters, and our nearby station at Keynsham is only 1h 50m from London.Just off the kitchen we have a beautiful, big sunroom with bi-fold doors that push back to open up the entire space to the south-facing terrace beyond, says Malachy. Its a lovely place for summer BBQs, and the views over the surrounding countryside are magnificent. This has been a beautiful family home for the past ten years, says Malachy, but our children are now establishing their own families and homes, and we want to be able to spend more time with them. Well particularly miss the wonderful feeling we get every time we walk through the front door and see the view through the study to the fields beyond. Well be very sad to leave.Malachy and Jenny
