Full Details for 6 Bedroom Detached for sale in Deal, CT14 :

Whether you are looking for a grand family residence or are considering developing a boutique upmarket country house hotel, this property offers a dream come true. Purported to have been designed by the eminent architect Sir Gilbert Scott in 1885, it is steeped in history with a veritable ‘Who’s Who’ of illustrious and eclectic visitors who have graced the house with their presence in the past. These include the Queen Mother, Yehudi Menuhin, Sir Robert Menzies, Douglas Bader and Ted Heath and, from the moment you turn into the drive and see the impressive façade of the house for the first time, you can almost feel the atmosphere engendered by those that have gone before.

This feeling continues as you cross the threshold into the large pattern tiled reception hall with its high ceilings and wide primary staircase. The hall leads to the impressive drawing room with its stained glass top lights, shuttered windows and beautiful fireplace and the equally elegant formal dining room where you can entertain friends and family in the grand manner. If you are celebrating a special event and have a marquee in the beautiful grounds there are doors out into a porch from both the drawing room and the dining room leading directly to the magnificent one acre of garden and more than four acres of parkland. Here, the enormous variety of impressive specimen deciduous and evergreen trees will take your breath away. Many of the them were originally planted by a previous owner Frank Rose, the Mayor of Sandwich, in the middle of the last century so have matured sufficiently to provide a wonderful external frame for this very special property.

What the Owner says:

We moved here about 16 years ago when our children were quite young and have enjoyed everything about our lovely home. However, the family have left home and it really is too big for us now. We know we will miss the space and the grounds and particularly the parties we have been able to host over the years. When it was the Golf Open at Sandwich we invited 60 people to an ‘Alternative Golf Championship’ and created a nine-hole golf course in the grounds and when the Olympics were on we hosted our own Olympic events for all our friends and family.
Over the years we have enjoyed upgrading the house. This has included installing a new kitchen and bathrooms as well as putting solar panels on the blind side of the roof – which considerably reduces our electricity costs. We have found the accommodation is very flexible and if someone wanted to create a small hotel there is already appropriate plumbing and facilities in all the bedrooms. Another option is that, as there are two staircases and a number of separate entrances to the property, it would be possible to partially divide the house if you needed to provide independent living for elderly relatives, adult children or in house staff.
Although we are literally yards from the main road to Deal, because of the long drive and the trees, we are very private and yet everywhere is easily accessible. It is only a mile-and-a-half to the delightful historic Cinque Port town of Sandwich.
