HISTORICAL NOTES The construction of Lorne Rd is detailed on 1888 parish maps of Oldfield Park, although the first list of residents was not published until 1892. The demographic makeup of the residents followed the pattern of many other local roads, with 12 occupiers being G.W.R employees of one kind or another. Added to this (among other trades) were 4 Royal Mail employees, 8 clerks, 4 tailors and 2 musicians. The road name is derived from John George Edward Henry Douglas Sutherland Campbell, 9th Duke of Argyll, usually better known by the courtesy title Marquess of Lorne (by which he was known between 1847 and 1900). Campbell was the fourth Governor General of Canada from 1878 to 1883 and married Queen Victoria's fourth daughter, Princess Louise, on 21 March 1871.
