What the vendor says:
We moved into Byne Road back in 2007 and have genuinely loved every minute of living here. The house is like a tardis, looking so quaint from the roadside, but once you walk through the door, it just seems to go on and on. This didn't come cheap, but the plan was to live in the house forever so everything was done for our benefit rather than as an investment.
First job when we got the keys, was to landscape the garden (now I know what you are thinking, why wasn't it to re-paint the lavender exterior......but it grew on us). Next was getting a carpenter in to maximise the storage space either side of the fireplaces upstairs by building wardrobes. Next was our daughter's bedroom which was magic. Then came the kitchen extension (aka the Side Return) in 2008. We took the opportunity, whilst the kitchen was a bombsite already, to add a downstairs toilet and utility room; no one wants to see the washing machine and tumble dryer in their new kitchen.
We then took a brief pause before doing the loft conversion in 2011/12. We maximised the size of the extension but ensured we kept it 'in keeping' with the rest of the house, as best we could. Having lost the storage space in the loft, we made sure we could fully utilise the eaves (which are accessed from the back of the built in cupboards). Amazing how much you can hide....I mean store, in there.
Not wishing to miss an opportunity while the house was upside down already, we made the family bathroom a 'proper' family bathroom, and I made the back bedroom my office. Again, no expense spared, case in point being the fact that moving the window in the bathroom so the double sink (and mirror) would work, was the largest single cost of the whole bathroom
The meticulousness of my dear wife, whilst annoying at times, means we do have a list of all the paint colours used. Oh and tile names, grout colours.......the list goes on.
The other huge draw to the area is the great transport links; you can be in the West End, City or Canary Wharf in around 20 minutes.
The area itself has also benefitted from investment by the council, which has meant Sydenham High Street has really come on since we moved here. It reminds me of East Dulwich before the reinvention! This said, I'm no estate agent.
