What The Owner Says
\"When we 1st viewed the house more than 11 years ago the first thing we noticed (apart from the impressive double fronted aspect) is what a nice feeling the house had as you came in through the front door. That still has not changed. It is one of the things often mentioned by friends. The cellar has been a godsend. I lose count of the birthday parties and gatherings that the children have had where we have been able to throw everybody downstairs, close the door and retain the mess! It certainly beats having a dozen children racing round the house, as was our previous experiences. The cellar has grown up with the boys and is now used as a small gym. During our time in the house we have kept the fabric of the building true to its original purpose but have added modern twists to the traditional. The old downstairs back porch has been changed into a wet room. This was much needed with the children were smaller and both of them played football. One bathroom was just never enough. The fireplaces in the lounge and dining room are original; I think we are one of only 2 of the 8 houses to retain both fireplaces. We took the opportunity of having the lounge fireplace re-fabricated so that we could have a real fire. It is pretty impressive on a cold, gloomy night. The original lincrusta above the picture rail in the dining room has also been retained, as have the original hand-painted light shades. Upstairs the ceilings had been dropped by the previous owner on both the landing and main bedroom. We took the opportunity to have those ripped out and put back to their original height. We commissioned a specialist company to provide plaster replica, period cornicing and ceiling roses to give the upstairs back that sense of height and space. At the same time we took the opportunity of having every upstairs room replastered. The family bathroom is an indulgence of mine and I like nothing more than lying in the bath looking up almost 20 feet to see the clouds blowing across the window. The master bedroom would have had a fireplace and so an 1881 replica from another house was purchased and installed. I think it adds an air of grandeur to the room. I have loved the fact that its location is ideal for the M66, M60 motorway links and a short distance from Bury town centre. A drive into Manchester takes only 20 minutes or so but it is also on a main bus route with the A 56 servicing both Bury and Manchester fantastically. It has been an ideal house for 2 boys growing up. Unfortunately, the eldest has flown the nest and the youngest is about to embark on his further education and consequently the house is far too big. The house goes on the market with sadness but not regret. Houses like this are few and far between and we have been delighted to have preserved some of our Victorian heritage. It is now time to pass the baton on to the next family.\"
