What The Owner Says
'Built at the end of the 19th century for Richard Barlow, one of the local mill owner's sons, this has been a wonderful family home for us since 1983. We are only the fifth family to have lived in this house in well over 100 years so it has obviously cast its spell on others too! The house is very comfortable and has plenty of living space and loads of storage. We fell for the many original features such as the cast iron fire surrounds and the beautiful wood staircase. The garden is very private and has sun for most of the day and evening, great for barbecues. The access and car port at the back are very convenient and the brick outhouses have many potential uses, storage, workshop, studio and so on. While we have kept the period features we have added a downstairs shower room, modernised the bathroom and kitchen (new boiler in 2010) and in conjunction with our neighbours, re-slated the complete roof three years ago. After so many years it's a real wrench to leave this house and our great neighbours but we are now moving away to be nearer family and take up babysitting duties!'
