Full Details for 4 Bedroom Semi-Detached for sale in Holt, NR25 :

Brook House is a charming traditional Norfolk property dating from the late eighteenth century that is Listed Grade II. The twentieth century architectural historian Nikolaus Pevsner refers to the platband (or string course) which is a feature of the mellow brick façade along with the sash windows and segmental arches. Internally the character has been preserved with exposed timbers and period fireplaces while the house has been tastefully modernised and extended. With a flint gable and pantiled roof this forms a focal point to the streetscape when viewed from west. A public footpath runs through the meadows between Brinton and Thornage Hall, affording this view.

There is an attractive and sheltered garden at the rear running down to the brook which skirts the property. Beyond the shared access and parking area is the pightle (enclosure) of over half an acre again bordered by the brook. A garage building with workshop and greenhouse is located at the entrance to this level garden area which has been used for fruit and vegetables as well as recreation.

The village is designated as part of the Glaven Valley Conservation Area which extends up to Holt and down to the coast at Cley and Blakeney. Thornage Hall, sometimes referred to as a summer palace for the medieval Bishops of Norwich, stands at the top end and is now occupied by the Camphill Trust. It is still owned by the Astley family and in the nineteenth century the MGNR railway from Holt was said to have been diverted southwards by the then Lord Hastings to preserve the amenity of Thornage. The parish church stands close to Brook House in the middle of the village which has a large number of other fine houses interspersed with traditional flint cottages.

The popular little town of Holt, home to Gresham's School, is five minutes' drive away with the coastal Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty beyond.
