Living in KnowleQuality of life is about the details of everyday living. From the little things, like knowing the nearest place to pick up a pint of milk, to more important matters like finding the right school or having a health centre nearby, you need to know that the community you’re moving to will support you and your family, as well as being a pleasant place to live. So here’s some useful information about the area around Arden Fields.
Local RootsKnowle’s long history is evident in its fifteenth century church and Guild House, and in the many charming half-timbered houses and the local library housed in a building dating back to Tudor times. Arden Fields backs directly on to a picturesque 700 year-old lane that links the village centre with the Grand Union Canal.
Leisure & RecreationThe village amenities include several parks and open spaces. The grounds of Knowle Cricket Club are adjacent to Arden Fields, and Knowle Park includes a children’s play area and five-a-side pitches. There are some superb wildlife habitats nearby, including a designated Local Nature Reserve, and easy access to countryside and the Grand Union Canal which links Birmingham with London and is popular with pleasure craft users, cyclists and walkers. The exclusive Copt Heath Golf Club is less than a mile away, and the local football team Knowle fc, known as ‘the Robins’, play in the Midlands League. Knowle’s pubs, cafés and restaurants attract visitors from throughout the area.
ShoppingKnowle High Street, less than quarter of a mile from Arden Fields, has an excellent selection of local shops including traditional butchers, bakers and a newsagent, a sweet shop, a sub post office, convenience stores and a Tesco Metro. There is also a wide choice of hairdressers, fashion outlets, banks and other services in and around the High Street. The award winning Touchwood Shopping Centre in Solihull includes branches of John Lewis and many other national chains as well as a cinema, bars and restaurants, and the huge range of Birmingham’s shops are also in easy reach
TransportKnowle is served by Dorridge railway station, around one and a half miles from Arden Fields, with services to London Marylebone, a journey of around one hour 50 minutes, and to Birmingham New Street, 25 minutes away. Bus services operate from Knowle to Dorridge and Solihull, and Junction 5 of the M42, just over a mile from Arden Fields, offers fast access to Birmingham International Airport, around five miles away.
Local RecyclingA recycling area behind Knowle Library, just off the High Street and around 500 yards from Arden Fields, includes facilities for glass, cans, textiles, paper and packaging.
Education & HealthKnowle Church of England Primary School, around ten minutes walk from Arden Fields, achieved an ‘outstanding’ rating in its most recent Ofsted assessment, and there are also primary schools in neighbouring Bentley Heath and Dorridge, around 20 minutes walk away. Arden School, which serves the village and surrounding communities, is also just a 10 minute walk from the development. There is a large health centre, the Blythe Practice, half a mile from Arden Fields, and two dental surgeries less than a mile away.
