Tiverton is the largest town in Mid Devon, on the banks of the Exe River, with antique roots in the wool and lace trades (retaining one of the oldest examples of a woolen mill in the country). Boat trips are also offered along the ‘Grand Western Canal’, an import and export route once critical to the town’s success. Other historical attractions include a castle, built in 1106 and the ‘Tiverton Museum of Mid Devon Life’ – a time capsule exploring rural industrialisation and bygone ways of living. With respect to facilities, Tiverton is modern and caters for most needs. However, Exeter is a short drive away (30 mins) – serving up the full city experience, including brilliant nightlife and shopping. Tiverton also has swift access to the M5, 30 mins to Taunton. The proximity to Exeter and Taunton combine, making it an ideal commuter town. Schooling: Tiverton has both state and private options – both of which are excellent.
