Full Details for 4 Bedroom Detached for sale in Christchurch, BH23 :

Denisons are pleased to offer the opportunity to purchase an outstanding home in Christchurch Town Centre, situated impressively between the Christchurch Priory and historical castle ruins. This landmark property is like no other, and we're giving you the chance to buy a piece of history!Church Hatch is an outstanding Grade II listed residence, which still thoughtfully captures the original Georgian features, dating back as far as 1741. The extensive accommodation includes a grand reception hall/dining room, large study, kitchen, impressive drawing room with marble mantelpiece and bay window overlooking the beautiful walled grounds. The ground floor alsoincludes a cloakroom and utility room that form part of an 18th century extension beyond the dining room. There are also extensive cellars. To the first floor there are four double bedrooms, one family bathroom and one ensuite shower room. To the second floor, there are three further rooms. Arguably one of the most impressive homes in Christchurch, Church Hatch is very unique and rumour has it, that when Sir Arthur Conan Doyle stayed in the house, it inspired the Sherlock Holmes story The Speckled Band. Adjacent to Church Hatch and included, is the appropriately named Castle View, also Grade II Listed and designed as the mews house. Hidden behind the walled courtyard the accommodation includes a large entrance hallway, lounge, kitchen breakfast room, two double bedrooms and bathroom. In addition to the courtyard, this property has rear access to the lawned garden, which is set against the backdrop of the castle ruins. The double garage can be accessed through the kitchen and provides essential off road parking in this popular town centre. We strongly recommend internal inspection of this very special set of properties. Owners Commentary: My family have had the privilege of living in Church Hatch since the mid 1980's, when my uncle first acquired the property. This beautiful family home with its elegant Georgian facade, well-proportioned rooms and extensive garden has a warm and welcoming feel that envelops the visitor from the moment you step inside. Throughout its long history, Church Hatch has provided a home to many different people, including amongst others: Major-General Sir Owen Tudor Burne, a veteran of the Crimean War and Indian Mutiny (1903-9) and publisher Walter Hutchinson (1930's), who installed the first direct phone line between Christchurch and his London HQ . During World War ll, Church Hatch also offered sanctuary to numerous evacuees, who were no doubt grateful to exchange the perils of London for the relative tranquility of a pretty, Dorset town. A few decades earlier, the house had also welcomed a rather illustrious visitor - Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, well-known author of the Sherlock Holmes novels. It was whilst staying in what my family and I affectionately call the 'Pink Room' that Sir Arthur got the idea of his next Sherlock Holmes story -'The Speckled Band', first published in 1892. It is with heavy heart that we are giving up our beloved family home but I have no doubt that whoever next has the pleasure of living here will come to love it as much as we do.
