If you want the joy of rural living coupled to a modern easy-to-run home, this impressive chalet bungalow nestling in wrap-around grounds should tick all your boxes. Sitting at the foot of the North Downs in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the outskirts of the hamlet of Newington, with its Norman church and Domesday book entry, this property has been designed to make the most of the views across the surrounding countryside. At the same time, it is near enough to Folkestone West Station and the Channel
Tunnel to ensure you can either be in London or on the Continent in under an hour.
In recent years, this property has been completely transformed from a small bungalow into a stunning family home with four double bedrooms, including three with en suite facilities. From the moment you approach through wrought iron gates and a long private drive, the anticipation builds and, once through the attractive front door, you are immediately drawn to the elegant lounge area with its unusual archway, through to the bright and airy dining area. With a plethora of windows and French doors to the garden providing enchanting vistas from every angle and a cosy wood-burning stove in the lounge, these spacious rooms lend themselves to both entertaining as well as relaxing around the fire watching TV.
The large and well-proportioned kitchen/breakfast room provides everything you need to cook up a storm including an induction hob, combination and electric double oven, a dishwasher and a larder cupboard. It leads to the vast utility room and a door to the garden.
Also on the ground floor is the master bedroom with en suite facilities and a walk-in wardrobe, a study, another double bedroom opening on to a small conservatory and adjacent to the family bathroom. Upstairs there are 2 further double en-suite bedrooms with a loft space.
What the Owner says:
At the same time, we are only five minutes from the big Tesco and the individual shops along Cheriton High Street. Over the years, we have thoroughly enjoyed completely transforming the bungalow and we designed it so that the accommodation would be very flexible. For example, the ground floor bedroom with direct access to a small conservatory could be ideal spot for an elderly relative while the two en-suite bedrooms upstairs would be excellent if you wanted to develop a bed and breakfast business – particularly bearing in mind the proximity to the Channel Tunnel and the coast. Alternatively, the upstairs rooms would make a great place for older children to maintain a little independence – especially as the attic area could be converted to a games room where they could invite their friends.
The outdoor terrace and the reception rooms make ideal entertainment areas and we have enjoyed hosting some excellent parties over the years.
‘Grow your own’ has been a great hobby and the vegetable garden has always provided enough vegetables so we never need to buy any, while the kenneling area is just the place for keeping our pedigree show dogs and, if they make a noise, there is no-one else around to hear them! The double garage and the long driveway provide plenty of space for numerous vehicles including motor homes and horse boxes.
