Full Details for 4 Bedroom Detached for sale in Chippenham, SN14 :
Stylish, light, spacious property built of oak and stone in 2006 on the edge of desirable Nettleton village. Comprising open plan kitchen/dining room/sitting room, two bedrooms on ground floor, one en-suite, two further bedrooms, family bathroom, en-suite, study, garden room, garage, attractive garden. This stunning family home was born out of the desire of its current owners to live in a characterful, barn-style property that had all of the comfort, light and space of a contemporary home. The result is a beautiful property that has been thoughtfully designed and built to fit perfectly with the narrative of its lovely surroundings, and one that incorporates a wealth of modern conveniences. We had always wanted to live in a converted barn, says Gareth, but although many of those that we viewed looked nice from the outside, we found the majority to be small and claustrophobic on the inside. The Tynings was listed in the Domesday Book as an orchard surrounded by a dry stone Cotswold wall that hundreds of years later provided us with a framework in which to design and build our own home." With this house we feel as if we have the best of old and new, continues Gareth. The building is constructed of oak and stone, and inside we have beautiful beams but the ceilings are nine-foot high. There are features throughout which give it character and charm, but we are able to benefit from open-plan living. Its interesting, because some people in the village commented on how much better the property looked after we renovated it, but there was actually nothing here before; despite being a contemporary build it fits incredibly well into its surroundings complementing the neighbouring 19th century barn and 16th century farmhouse. We wanted space, particularly for the children as they grew, says Gareth, and so we created four big, double bedrooms and stacks of living space. The main living area is very open plan, and many of the windows are floor-to-ceiling and look out over the south-facing garden, so we often feel as if we are living outdoors; theres a wonderful connection to the outside space. We also created a lovely timber terrace that runs the length of the house, so we can open up a number of French doors from both the living areas and bedrooms and step right out onto the garden. When we bought the land it was part of a working farm and it required considerable imagination to recognise its potential for a family home, says Gareth. After building the house itself we created an attractive garden. It comprises a series of lawns that are bounded by herbaceous borders, and as well as the timber terrace there are lots of areas to sit and enjoy it. Within the garden we also renovated a separate stone studio / home office with adjacent potting shed, which complements the style of the house beautifully.Denise adds that the contemporary and light feel to the house, coupled with the many living areas, means that the house always feels peaceful and calm, even with three children. I particularly love spending Christmas here with our family when the wood burning stove has been lit, the smell of pine needles pervades and the open plan living really comes into its own.As well as the house itself, we have really loved the location, continues Gareth. I had to do an awful lot of travelling for work and it proved to be an incredibly convenient spot. In less than two hours I could drive to London, Birmingham, Exeter or Southampton. We are close to the M4 and M5 and convenient for rail links at Chippenham meaning that if I needed to get to London for a meeting I could be there in just over an hour and a quarter, but the electrification improvement will bring that time down even further.Denise is similarly impressed with the location. The location really is ideal particularly for the outdoors for horse riding (2 miles from Badminton), cycling and walking. We are spoilt for choice with Tetbury, Cirencester and Chipping Sodbury all within easy reach for shopping, antique hunting and afternoon tea. Bath, at just 8 miles away, has all the amenities we could need including theatre, an assortment of shops, restaurants and spa.On weekends Gareth and I enjoy walking across the fields and golf course to Castle Combe for Sunday lunch, continues Denise. It is lovely to have such a beautiful and historic village, famous for its film set location, right on our door step."Since retiring Ive discovered what a great place it is to live on a day-to-day basis, says Gareth. It is so incredibly peaceful, but at the same time the village has a wonderfully vibrant community. All the villagers joined together to buy a marquee and it is often used for village fetes, teas and garden parties. We are also lucky to have an award winning post office / village shop. Its that sort of thing that makes it so special.I can honestly say that we will all be very sad to leave this house, says Gareth. Well miss the space, the light, the fact that we can look out of every window and see views of the garden and the rolling fields beyond, and well definitely be sad to leave this wonderful community.
