The owner was a naval commodore and played an important role in the Falklands conflict as well as being a noted yachtsman in the ocean racing fraternity. When he and his wife retired twenty years ago they wanted to live as close to the sea as possible and this lovely home really suited their needs. The owner became commodore of the Royal Temple Yacht Club in Ramsgate, so was delighted to live in the vicinity but also enjoyed everything that Westgate has to offer. Their family loved to visit and the grandchildren enjoyed spending days on the beach. While the donkey rides may no longer exist, the area has hardly changed in more than fifty years and the lovely beaches, with their beach huts, are still a magnet for families. It is an ideal spot for a bit of exercise as you can cycle along the thirty-five mile stretch of coastal promenade or walk the dogs on the greensward opposite the house.
Westgate is a friendly place with a delightful parade of individual shops, where you can buy a variety of interesting and unusual items or enjoy Indian and Chinese delicacies from the takeaway restaurants. There is a main-line station, a local cinema that shows all the latest films as well as a bowls and tennis club and the Westgate and Birchington golf club, only a few minutes away.
