Appleton Appleton is a civil parish and suburb of Warrington in Cheshire, England. The A49 road runs through neighbouring Stockton Heath up the hill into Appleton and links Warrington town centre with the M56 motorway. At the heart of Appleton is The Warrington Golf Club. There is a large burial site situated at the top of Red Lane named Fox Covert Cemetery. The cemetery has excellent views overlooking the whole of Warrington and the surrounding countryside and is known locally as Hillcliffe. This is a very popular vantage point on special occasions, such as Guy Fawkes Night and New Year's Eve. There are four schools in Appleton, Bridgewater High School, Broomfields Junior School, St Monica's Catholic Primary School and Cobbs Infant and Nursery School.

St Matthews Church From the reign of Henry II, the village of Stretton was owned by the Starkey family and it is likely that a chapel was built for the family during the 13th or 14th century. In a will dated 1527 the chapel is referred to as the Oratory of St Saviour. In Leycester's history of Cheshire it is stated that in 1666 the \"ancient chapel of Stretton\" was \"ruinous and in decay\". In 1826–27 a Commissioners' Church was built as a chapel of ease to Great Budworth. It was designed by Philip Hardwick and accommodated 250 people. In 1859 Richard Greenall, vicar and Archdeacon of Chester, commissioned George Gilbert Scott to build a chancel, which he did. Richard Greenall died suddenly in 1867, and following this the rest of the church was rebuilt as a memorial to him, Scott again being the architect.

Stockton Heath Stockton Heath is a civil parish and suburb of Warrington, Cheshire, England. It is located to the north of the Bridgewater Canal, which divides Stockton Heath from Latchford and North Warrington. It has a total resident population of 6,396. Victoria Square is at the centre of Stockton Heath and is on the crossroads of the A49 and A56. Until the 1970s, the Victoria Hotel stood on this square but its location has been redeveloped. North of the square is the main shopping area which includes the Forge Shopping Centre, developed on the site of the old forge (Caldwell's). Stockton Heath is home to a number of modern bars and restaurants, as well as traditional public houses. The Red Lion Inn dates back to the early 19th century and the Mulberry Tree on Victoria Square, opened in its present building (replacing earlier premises dating from 1725) in March 1907.
