Its aspect, location and sheltered waters, make Porthpean a particularly popular family beach and it is also home to the Porthpean Sailing club. To the north of the property is Porthpean Golf Club, an 18 hole course open to the public.
The historic harbour of Charlestown is about 1 mile to the north east and the centre of St Austell is about 2 miles to the north. St Austell offers a range of shopping facilities, schooling and a mainline railway station which provides a service to London Paddington. The Eden Project is situated 3 miles away to the north, and the Lost Gardens of Heligan is 3 miles to the south, just outside the picturesque fishing village of Mevagissey, which can alternatively be reached via a picturesque coastal walk.
