It was not until the middle 1800's that building on a large scale took place in Newbridge. Primarily farmland between the Bristol Road and Weston Village, the first substantial building in the area was Partis College – designed and built by the London architects Samuel & Philip Flood Page from 1825 to 1827 and funded by the will of Reverend Fletcher Partis. Like many merchant villas built at this time, this property was originally named rather than numbered - the house was called Ivanhoe.
