Set within the Yorkshire Dales National Park, its renowned for its rolling and sometimes rugged scenery from the meandering walks alongside the River Wharfe to the upper reaches of the village where the original lead mines can still be seen. Within the village, there is a bus station, primary school, secondary school at nearby Threshfield, and an excellent range of everyday and specialist shops, as well as a choice of eating establishments and hostelries. The Town Hall has a busy programme of events, supplemented in summer by the acclaimed Grassington Festival and in winter by the Dickensian weekend.
