Full Details for 2 Bedroom Cottage for sale in Crediton, EX17 :
A true “Chocolate Box” detached thatched cottage with large garden on the edge of this sought after village.
Located on the edge of the pretty Mid-Devon village of Coleford, Gribbles Cottage is a true “Chocolate Box” cottage and available on the open market for the first time in over 20 years. The Grade II listed cottage is believed to date back as early as the 14th century and has all of the old world charm one would expect. A large inglenook is the focus of the good sized living room, with intact bread oven and exposed stonework. It is worth noting that the ceiling heights are approx. 2.1m with the odd low beam but a decent height for the type of cottage. It has been well maintained and although dated, it offers a new owner the chance to sympathetically update to their own tastes.
On the first floor are two double bedrooms and the bathroom, whilst the living room, dining room and kitchen are on the ground floor. To the rear of the cottage is an attached car port with door which has the possibility (subject to planning approval) to be incorporated into the living spaces if required. Outside is a well-established large garden with pretty planted banks, pathways and private seating and lawn areas. There are various outbuildings dotted around the outside space plus an enclosed fruit cage (somewhat overgrown but with an abundance of soft fruit bushes).
There is an additional piece of land to the South of the cottage which adjoins the country lane, this piece of land is in the process of being transferred to Gribbles Cottage and would provide further off-road parking if required (subject to planning).
COLEFORD is a conservation area with many picturesque thatched cottages. The hamlet is nestled in a peaceful valley approximately 3 miles west of Crediton. There is a particularly well-restored ancient thatched inn (The New Inn), which together with the carefully preserved adjoining properties provides an unspoilt example of a traditional small Devon community. King Charles 1 is reputed to have visited the hamlet during the Civil War and he stabled his horses there on 27th July 1644 and also inspected his troops from the porch of Spencer Cottage.
DIRECTIONS From Crediton, take the A377 to Copplestone. Proceed through the village, through the traffic lights and bear left as signed to Bow and Okehampton. Immediately after bearing left, take the first left turn as signed to Coleford and Colebrooke. Follow this road for nearly a mile and Gribbles Cottage will be found on the right hand side.
