DESCRIPTION
The Coach House Garage is a pretty building sympathetic to the style of the main Bere Ferrers booking office building and Station Masters house. Built in 1987 with cavity walls including facing brick outer skin and vertically hung gable slates, the roof is of proprietary Countryman Homes prefabricated truss system with a steep pitch, clad in reclaimed Delabole regular slate. At first floor is a gable window facing south east and a large dormer window south west thereby trapping sunlight throughout the day. Outside are areas of garden to front, side and rear together with adjacent off road tandem parking. There is a sizeable ‘gangers hut’ ideal for bicycles and storage.
The nature of construction of the property with cavity walls at ground floor level and steep pre-fabricated roof structure over presents an opportunity to effect conversion without much of the major structural work which is normally required for such projects. Additionally the connection of mains water and electricity together with the availability of a connection to a shared septic tank sewerage system is also of significant advantage. No building regulation application has yet been made although the main item required to comply will be insulation.
SITUATION
Coach House Garage is in the garden of the former stations masters house of Bere Ferrers Station which is midway along the Plymouth to Gunnislake Tamar Valley line (Great Western Railway).
The scenic village of Bere Ferrers borders the river Tavy tidal estuary. The village has a wonderful environment with church, public house, riverside seating areas and of course this railway station. The frontage is tidal that provides for wonderful boating, kayaking and other water sport activities as does the Tamar Estuary itself which runs south to the scenic Plymouth Sound and the south coast.
Passing through Bere Ferrers from Weir Quay to Lopwell and beyond is the Bere Cycle Route and more extensive still the Tamar Valley Discovery Trail footpath linking to Bere Alston, Calstock, Marystow and beyond.
